Let's Dig a Well

The DMT is challenging the 63 churches in our district to raise $10,000 to dig a well for water in the Sudan. That's about $160 dollars per church. This small amount from each church will bring life supporting water to those who struggle to get obtain it. Donations can be sent to Dyersburg District at P.O. Box 277, Dyersburg, TN 38025. Mark your check "Dig a Well". Click on the this blog's entry's title for a PDF Flyer to place around your church or click here.

Interfaith Winter Dessert Gala

Everyone says your peach cobbler is the best they have ever tasted. Or maybe it’s your chocolate pie, or vanilla cheesecake. How would you like to test that claim, and find out how your special dessert stacks up against the favorites that other local chefs have to offer? You can do that AND support the Interfaith Student Center, a campus ministry that has been offering Christ to UTM students for more than 60 years.

Enter the Interfaith Winter Dessert Gala, and you could win the first annual Rolling Pin award. Plaques will be awarded in six divisions: candy, cakes, pies, cookies, other desserts, and restaurant/business class. Entry fee is $10 for each individual submission and $20 for each restaurant/business submission. See your church office or contact the Interfaith Student Center for an entry form.

Winning dishes will be selected based upon the number of votes they receive. So tell everyone who has ever raved about your specialty that it’s time to put their dollars where their mouths are. They can vote for your dish by making a donation to the Interfaith Student Center. $1 is one vote. But your fans can vote as many times as they wish, and give as much as they are able. Votes can be placed on the night of the Gala or in advance. Votes can also be made online at www.utm.edu/organizations/ifaith. When making a donation, please be sure to indicate whose dessert you are voting for.

You may enter the contest as many times as you like. A separate entry form and fee must be submitted for each dessert. On the day of the gala, come prepared to serve a taste of each dessert to at least 40 people.

Persons who like to eat dessert more than they like to cook can sample the various offerings and vote for their favorites. Admission into the gala tasting will be $10 for adults and $5 for students, seniors, and children up to age 12.

The Interfaith Winter Dessert Gala will be held Saturday, January 30, from 4-7 p.m. at the Interfaith Center, which is located at 312 Lovelace Avenue in Martin.

Spring Lakeshore Retreats

There are two great options for your spring 2010 youth retreat. Both are at Lakeshore. The 30 Hour Famine retreat combines an amazing and talented team of youth leaders and a world wide movement to eradicate hunger among children. This is a great weekend retreat for youth youth. It is by far the best retreat at the Shore I have been to. And it better keep up its past performance because they have assembled a team of epic proportions for the spring retreat. This leadership team promises to make this retreat one for the ages as well. Take advantage of these opportunities for close to home, relatively low cost, high impact youth retreats this spring.
